Accountant achieves First in Professional Exams - 03/03/2009

An accountant at Stockton on Tees accountants Baines Jewitt has clocked up an impressive achievement in her latest professional exams.

Hilary Bevan became was the first person in the country to pass both the Chartered

Institute of Taxation's new online ethics and law papers in the same sitting. Passing the two e-assessments, which take the form of hour-long, multiple choice papers, is a key step towards final qualification as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).

The success is another significant achievement for Hilary, who last year fully qualified after passing the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants’ (ACCA) exams with the highest mark in the north-east of England region in her corporate reporting paper.

Her performance was so good that she achieved the 14th highest mark worldwide in the corporate reporting exam.

Hilary began her career in accountancy with Baines Jewitt 1998, after completing her A levels. She initially qualified with the Association of Accounting Technicians, then took a break from her studies before starting her ACCA course in 2005.

She said: “I’m delighted with the results of these e-assessments and look forward to continuing to work towards CTA qualification.”

Baines Jewitt partner Trevor Cook said: “The congratulations of all our partners and staff go to Hilary on what is a very impressive achievement.”

Hilary was presented with a magnum of champagne by the Newcastle branch of the CIOT to mark her success in the exams.
