Go Karting - Professionals Networking Event - 09/08/2007

Baines Jewitt recently entered two teams of three drivers in the ‘Barclays Endurance Karting Challenge’ organised by Ross Hume, Area Director of Barclays Tees Valley Medium Business Team. The event was held at the Teesside Karting Centre in South Bank and involved twenty teams from the local business community.

A portion of the entrance fee was kept aside as a donation to a local charity nominated by Barclays.

The ‘A’ team from Baines Jewitt included Trevor Cook, Anne Cowley and Mike Firman. The ‘B’ team comprised Jed Lester, Don Adams and Peter Riley. After practice and warm up the teams completed an endurance race over 90 minutes with the three drivers in each team taking spells of around 15 minutes before change over with the next nominated driver. It was obvious from the outset that the A team was not living up to its potential and lagged the B team most of the competition. The gap between the two teams was shortened somewhat when Trevor Cook deliberately or otherwise lost control of his kart and was rammed broadside by Peter Riley with both drivers out of the race for repairs for a valuable 3 minutes therefore losing team places on the leader board!

Despite not being in contention for a podium place the teams thoroughly enjoyed the event along with all of the other participants and helped to raise funds for a good cause. Baines Jewitt did not come home totally empty handed with Trevor and Peter awarded prizes for the most spectacular crash of the day.

Trevor is pictured fully kitted out and ready for action.
