One of Baines Jewitt’s long-serving employees is leaving the firm this summer.
Congratulations to Chris Shaw who is taking early retirement on 24 July 2026, almost 35 years since he joined us!
Following on from university, Chris began working for what was then Jewitt, Sparrow and Swinbank in September 1991 on an accountancy and audit training programme.
Gaining a vast amount of experience along the way, Chris became a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 1995.
Chris has worked closely with dozens of clients over the years, supporting them with their annual accounts and audits.
In addition to his academic expertise, and as someone who likes to be active, Chris has proved his ability to work well in a team. As well as being a former member of Stockton Hockey Club, Chris has demonstrated his sporting prowess across a number of different sports and activities. This includes leading the Baines Jewitt team on organised walks and representing the firm at ‘friendly’ cricket and foot golf matches.

Talking of his time at Baines Jewitt, Chris said: “I joined the firm at the start of my professional career and have seen many developments over the years, including fundamental changes to technology, tax legislation and economic stability.
“I’ve really enjoyed working closely with clients, as well as supporting the next generation of chartered accountants who are taking over the baton to keep things running smoothly.”
Talking about Chris and his contribution to Baines Jewitt, director Jed Lester said: “We will all miss Chris and the excellent contribution he has made to our firm.
“In particular, our clients have enjoyed the personal service that Chris has provided and the benefit of working with someone who knows their business inside out, yet can still offer them objective, impartial advice.”
On his retirement, Chris has no intention of taking things easy. As well as pursuing his love of gardening, hill walking and exploring the great outdoors, Chris is hoping to volunteer at an award-winning living history museum. He is also looking forward to spending more time with his family, including his wife Heather who is retiring from a long career in teaching.

Please be assured that following Chris’ departure the same high standard of service will continue for all of our clients. If you are a new or existing client with an accounting, audit, payroll or tax query, please get in touch with us as follows:
