Congratulations to Alison Bailey on her amazing 40-year work anniversary this month!

Following on from university, Alison began working for what was then Jewitt, Sparrow and Swinbank in August 1986 as an ‘articled clerk’ on an accountancy training programme.

Although her degree is in Geography, Alison chose accountancy as a career as she had a desire to work in finance.

Since joining the firm, Alison has gained a whole wealth of experience across accountancy disciplines for a range of different clients and sectors, including sole traders, charities and partnerships.

Alison’s role involves everything from charity independent examinations to tax returns, sole trader businesses, partnerships and small limited company accounts.

Despite her length of service, Alison has mainly reported to one person in her time here: director Jed Lester, who has an impressive 46 years with the firm.

As an organisation which boasts an excellent long-service record, Alison reveals what she believes makes Baines Jewitt a desirable place to work.

“I joined the firm at the start of my career and have enjoyed working alongside some really great people. As well as making good friends here, I’ve also loved getting to know our clients and building strong working relationships with them.

“There have been lots of changes over the years, not least the increased use of technology, which has made things interesting and keeps us on our toes.”

With three sports-mad sons, and as Boro season ticket holders, Alison and her husband are usually found at the Riverside Stadium on match days. To switch off from her busy work schedule, she also enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the outdoors, and holidays in the UK and abroad.
