Privacy/Data Protection Policy

General background

Baines Jewitt Ltd is committed to protecting your personal information. So that we can provide you with our full range of services, plus keep you up to date with important information about our organisation, we sometimes need to collect and process information about you. This Privacy/Data Protection Policy relates to how we use your personal information, whether you have provided it via our website or by other means.

When you provide such details, we are legally required to use your data in line with laws concerning the protection of personal information. This includes the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), effective from 25 May 2018.

GDPR is Europe’s new framework for data protection. The EU’s GDPR website explains that the legislation is designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe and give greater protection and rights to individuals. Despite the UK’s plans to leave the European Union, the UK still needs to comply with GDPR.

This means all businesses that hold and process personal information need to have proper processes and policies in place for handling this type of data. That includes our business – and your data.

Baines Jewitt Ltd has always taken managing data extremely seriously as part of best practice.  In line with GDPR, we have worked across all areas of our organisation, and with third parties, to make further improvements.

To ensure we are compliant with GDPR, we have:

  • Updated our processes and policies for privacy and data protection
  • Trained/updated all staff on the new regulations
  • Developed wider use of IRIS Openspace  (a secure, simple and direct way of sharing and accessing documents) for exchanges of personal and confidential data
  • Removed old and obsolete records
  • Improved IT security and testing
  • Improved marketing processes and systems – read on for more about this.
