New research conducted by the ICAEW Business Advice Service has revealed the average turnover for a British business as \u00a3505,644.33.\u00a0 The findings are based on analyses from the BAS Business Heat Map, which monitors annual turnover of businesses according to the constituency in which they are placed.<\/p>\n
More surprisingly, however, the research also revealed that average regional business turnover is higher in the North than the South, at \u00a3515,828.77 against \u00a3507.659.35.\u00a0 This is in spite of the unsurprising revelation that companies in the Cities of London and Westminster had the highest nationwide average turnover of \u00a31,038,556.70 \u2013 almost twice the national average.<\/p>\n
The distortion is due to places such as south London constituency Streatham, which had the smallest turnover at \u00a3280,422.58.\u00a0 Meanwhile, West Bromwich West, Kingston upon Hull East, Leeds Central, Sheffield (South East and Brightside & Hillsborough) and Birmingham Ladywood were all in the top 10 for average turnover \u2013 giving the North the slight edge.<\/p>\n
Stephen Ibbotson, ICAEW direct of business, said: \u201cThe BAS Business Heat Map is an interactive visual representation of average turnover by constituency in England, Wales and Scotland.<\/p>\n
However, he warned against jumping to conclusions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are obviously some surprising results but we need to remember that one large and\/or very successful business in a constituency can impact on results.\u00a0 We hope the map encourages people to take an interest in the economic landscape of their local area and perhaps be spurred on to start a business of their own.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
