{"id":4368,"date":"2021-10-15T18:14:56","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T18:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=4368"},"modified":"2021-10-15T18:14:59","modified_gmt":"2021-10-15T18:14:59","slug":"plastic-packaging-tax-what-is-the-new-levy-and-how-can-my-business-prepare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/plastic-packaging-tax-what-is-the-new-levy-and-how-can-my-business-prepare\/","title":{"rendered":"Plastic Packaging Tax: what is the new levy and how can my business prepare?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Plastic Packaging Tax \u2013 also known as the PPT \u2013 will come into force from next year.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what you need to know about the new levy designed to clamp down on plastic waste.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the Plastic Packaging Tax?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Coming into effect on 01 April 2022, the PPT is designed to encourage the use of recycled, rather than new, plastic.<\/p>\n<p>The tax \u2013 charged at \u00a3200 per metric tonne of plastic packaging &#8211; will apply to plastic packaging manufactured in, or imported into, the UK where the plastic used in its manufacture is less than 30 per cent recycled.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if your firm manufactures 100 tonnes of plastic packaging per year, and two tonnes contains less than 30 per cent recycled plastic, you will need to pay \u00a3400.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who does the new tax apply to?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PPT will impact any business that manufactures or imports 10 or more tonnes of plastic packaging a year.
