{"id":3829,"date":"2020-11-23T12:11:51","date_gmt":"2020-11-23T12:11:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3829"},"modified":"2020-11-23T12:11:52","modified_gmt":"2020-11-23T12:11:52","slug":"hmrcs-amended-guidance-on-late-furlough-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/hmrcs-amended-guidance-on-late-furlough-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"HMRC\u2019s amended guidance on late furlough claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 19 November 2020, the Government amended its guidance to give examples of what is meant by a \u2018reasonable excuse\u2019, for submitting furlough claims past the deadline.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Claims need submitting within two weeks of the end of the previous calendar month unless there is a \u201creasonable excuse for failing to make a claim in time\u201d. The deadlines in which the claims must be submitted by for the following dates are below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>November 2020 &#8211; 14 December 2020<\/li>\n<li>December 2020 &#8211; 14 January 2021<\/li>\n<li>January 2021 &#8211; 15 February 2021<\/li>\n<li>February 2021 &#8211; 15 March 2021<\/li>\n<li>March 2021 &#8211; 14 April 2021<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Guidance, by HM Revenue &amp; Customs (HMRC), states that they \u2018may\u2019 accept the following examples as reasonable excuses for not claiming in time:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A partner or close relative passed away shortly before the claim deadline<\/li>\n<li>An unexpected stay in the hospital<\/li>\n<li>A life-threatening, or severe illness, including coronavirus-related sickness prevented you from claiming in time, and no one could do so for you<\/li>\n<li>Spending a period in self-isolation prevented you from claiming in time, and no one could do so for you<\/li>\n<li>The computer or software you use failed just before or while you were preparing the claim<\/li>\n<li>HMRC\u2019s online service encountered issues<\/li>\n<li>Fire, flood or theft<\/li>\n<li>Unpredictable postal-related delays<\/li>\n<li>A disability-related issue that caused delays<\/li>\n<li>An HMRC error<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>It is vital to seek specialist help to ensure you meet all of your furlough-related obligations.
