{"id":3553,"date":"2020-05-01T13:00:12","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T13:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3553"},"modified":"2020-05-01T13:00:14","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T13:00:14","slug":"zero-rate-of-vat-applied-to-sales-of-ppe-from-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/zero-rate-of-vat-applied-to-sales-of-ppe-from-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Zero-rate of VAT applied to sales of PPE from today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The tax on personal protective equipment purchased by care homes, businesses, charities and individuals will be cut from today, it has been announced.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to HM Treasury, PPE, such as face masks and gowns, will be zero-rated for VAT from 01 May to 31 July 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The move is expected to save businesses and not-for-profit organisations approximately \u00a3100 million over the three-month period.<\/p>\n<p>HM Treasury added that the removal of VAT will particularly help care providers, who are often unable to claw back what they paid.<\/p>\n<p>The Government said it was only able to waive VAT on PPE by acting under an \u201cexceptional basis allowed by EU rules during health emergencies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after the Government recently waived import duties on specific medical supplies coming from outside the European single market for use by the NHS.
