{"id":3315,"date":"2019-11-06T10:25:48","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T10:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3315"},"modified":"2019-11-06T10:25:49","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T10:25:49","slug":"hmrc-to-clamp-down-on-tax-avoidance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/hmrc-to-clamp-down-on-tax-avoidance\/","title":{"rendered":"HMRC to clamp down on tax avoidance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HM Revenue &amp; Customs (HMRC) is set to clamp down on tax avoidance, after stating that it is \u201cdoubling the resources\u201d to tackle those in the avoidance supply chain.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The supply chain can include financial advisers, accountants and avoidance scheme promoters and designers.<\/p>\n<p>Penny Ciniewicz, HMRC\u2019s Director General of Customer Compliance, said: \u201cWe have more than 100 current investigations into promoters and we\u2019re keeping a very close eye on the market for avoidance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are spotting schemes as they emerge and we\u2019re tackling them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ciniewicz was responding to questions from a Treasury select committee, with a focus on HMRC\u2019s loan charge. The loan charge policy is subject to an independent review after it came into effect on 6 April 2019, applying to those who use disguised remuneration schemes.<\/p>\n<p>The new legislation added a 45 per cent charge on all loans that are advanced through the schemes, which is non-refundable.
