{"id":2505,"date":"2018-07-02T11:04:16","date_gmt":"2018-07-02T11:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2505"},"modified":"2018-07-02T11:04:18","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T11:04:18","slug":"q1-economic-growth-revised-upwards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/q1-economic-growth-revised-upwards\/","title":{"rendered":"Q1 economic growth revised upwards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a surprise move, the UK\u2019s economic growth has been revised upwards for the first quarter (Q1) of 2018.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Announcing the news on Friday 29 June 2018, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said that growth for the three months to March was 0.2 per cent. This is up from the ONS\u2019 previous estimate of 0.1 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The good news had an immediate impact on the value of the pound, which rose by 0.8 per cent against the US dollar as speculations surfaced that the Bank of England (BoE) might move to increase interest rates later in the year.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the BoE decided to hold its base rate at 0.5 per cent.
