{"id":1579,"date":"2016-11-04T12:54:27","date_gmt":"2016-11-04T12:54:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1579"},"modified":"2016-11-04T12:54:27","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T12:54:27","slug":"smes-international-ambitions-thwarted-by-limited-knowledge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/smes-international-ambitions-thwarted-by-limited-knowledge\/","title":{"rendered":"SMEs\u2019 international ambitions thwarted by limited knowledge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Britain\u2019s small business community is calling for greater support to develop its international trade.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Almost three quarters of SMEs who have ambitions to trade with countries overseas have admitted they feel they are held back by a lack of knowledge about what is involved.<\/p>\n<p>Common obstacles included scant understanding of local markets and difficulties unpicking the often intimidating set of requirements.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1,000 small and medium-sized firms were interviewed by HSBC for their new study, entitled Exporting for Growth: The SME Perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Of those who participated in the questionnaire, some were already exporting goods overseas, while others were weighing up their options.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Emmerson, HSBC\u2019s head of global trade and receivables finance UK, said that it was unfortunate that businesses with clear ambitions often felt put off by a lack of understanding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBusinesses\u00a0often feel the resources they need can be hard to find.
