{"id":1455,"date":"2016-08-18T09:35:47","date_gmt":"2016-08-18T09:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1455"},"modified":"2016-08-18T09:35:47","modified_gmt":"2016-08-18T09:35:47","slug":"smes-continually-disappointed-by-hmrc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/smes-continually-disappointed-by-hmrc\/","title":{"rendered":"SMEs continually disappointed by HMRC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The services offered by HM Revenue &amp; Customs (HMRC) are either \u2018bad\u2019 or \u2018very bad\u2019, according to a survey of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, a study carried out by <em>Simply Business<\/em> found that more than half of small business owners across Britain were \u2018dissatisfied\u2019 with HMRC\u2019s services.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes shortly after six consultation documents into HMRC\u2019s ongoing systems overhaul, Making Tax Digital (MTD), revealed that small firms and self-employed taxpayers are soon to be burdened by increased tax reporting requirements \u2013 unless their income is less than a measly \u00a310,000 a year.<\/p>\n<p>Under new proposals, businesses and self-employed individuals will need to submit tax information to HMRC four times a year, according to consultations.<\/p>\n<p>35 per cent of British SME owners told <em>Simply Business<\/em> that they thought HMRC\u2019s offerings were \u2018very bad\u2019, while a further 21 per cent described the Revenue\u2019s facilities as \u2018bad\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The cynicism follows controversial reports surrounding the tax authority\u2019s poor telephone services, which are fast-diminishing in the wake of MTD.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, HMRC reportedly cost tax payers some \u00a397 million by keeping business owners on hold when they \u2018could have been attending to business\u2019, the National Audit Office (NAO) reported.<\/p>\n<p>The NAO adapted the Revenue\u2019s own criteria to calculate the average value of each caller\u2019s time spent on hold \u2013 which it said was approximately \u00a317 per hour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The services offered by HM Revenue &amp; Customs (HMRC) are either \u2018bad\u2019 or \u2018very bad\u2019, according to a survey of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1455"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1455"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1455\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1456,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1455\/revisions\/1456"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1455"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1455"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1455"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
