{"id":1400,"date":"2016-07-12T12:21:30","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T12:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1400"},"modified":"2016-07-12T12:21:30","modified_gmt":"2016-07-12T12:21:30","slug":"business-chiefs-press-chancellor-for-bolder-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/business-chiefs-press-chancellor-for-bolder-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Business chiefs press Chancellor for bolder changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A coalition of groups \u2013 who together represent more than 100,000 retailers and other enterprises nationwide \u2013 have called for the Government to ease the business rates burden.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS), the British Retail Consortium and the Federation of Small Businesses are among the influential bodies which have put their names to the letter which has been sent to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.<\/p>\n<p>George Osborne had previously announced a number of changes to Britain\u2019s ageing system of business rates, having come under pressure to make the levies fairer. However, many business leaders don\u2019t believe the package of adjustments goes far enough.<\/p>\n<p>They make the case for ministers to prioritise a fundamental overhaul of business rates ahead of additional cuts to the UK\u2019s Corporation Tax and be generally more ambitious in the scale of changes.<\/p>\n<p>James Lowman, the ACS\u2019 chief executive, said: \u201cThe measures announced by the Chancellor in the most recent budget to implement reforms in the business rates system are welcome, but the Chancellor needs to move further and faster to ensure that small businesses are able to invest in their long term future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBusiness rate costs are a significantly higher burden than Corporation Tax for small businesses, and we hope that the Chancellor will recognise this through swift policy interventions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the measures suggested in the letter include making it easier to value the smallest businesses to reduce the number of appeals and regularly review the rules to encourage greater levels of investment.<\/p>\n<p>The letter reads: \u201cThere is consensus from the business community that these actions could stimulate growth and show the Government\u2019s ambition to make the UK the best country in which to do business.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A coalition of groups \u2013 who together represent more than 100,000 retailers and other enterprises nationwide \u2013 have called for the Government to ease the business rates burden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1400"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1400"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1400\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1401,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1400\/revisions\/1401"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1400"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1400"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1400"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
