{"id":1346,"date":"2016-06-09T09:57:18","date_gmt":"2016-06-09T09:57:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1346"},"modified":"2016-06-09T09:57:18","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T09:57:18","slug":"vat-dispute-sees-haulage-director-disqualified-for-nearly-nine-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/vat-dispute-sees-haulage-director-disqualified-for-nearly-nine-years\/","title":{"rendered":"VAT dispute sees haulage director disqualified for nearly nine years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A UK haulage director who failed to report or pay Value Added Tax (VAT) has been disqualified for nearly nine years.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mr Steven Heard, of Kent-based logistics firm LVH Services, was investigated by The Insolvency Service (IS), who discovered that he had neither reported nor paid some \u00a3500,000 of VAT.<\/p>\n<p>The firm, first set up in 2008, had de-registered for VAT in April 2012.<\/p>\n<p>However, during an HM Revenue &amp; Customs (HMRC) probe into the records of an associated company in 2013, HMRC found that LVH had been issuing VAT invoices to the associated firm.<\/p>\n<p>LVH re-registered for VAT in 2014, but entered into liquidation the same year, owing \u00a3654,960 in VAT-related surcharges interest and penalties.<\/p>\n<p>Cheryl Lambert, IS chief investigator, said: \u201cMr Heard oversaw an operation that, over a long period, did not submit accurate information to the tax authorities and, after de-registering for VAT, participated in a scheme to use one company to reduce the VAT exposure of a connected company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsequently, more than \u00a3500,000 was not properly reported nor paid to HMRC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant ban, reflecting the severity with which the IS considers the conduct of the director.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The IS said that the firm\u2019s internal records were poorly maintained and had fallen \u201cextremely short of the standards of competence and integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A UK haulage director who failed to report or pay Value Added Tax (VAT) has been disqualified for nearly nine years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1346"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1346"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1346\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1347,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1346\/revisions\/1347"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1346"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1346"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1346"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
