{"id":1292,"date":"2016-04-29T11:30:36","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T11:30:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1292"},"modified":"2016-04-29T11:30:36","modified_gmt":"2016-04-29T11:30:36","slug":"business-chiefs-issue-warning-over-sluggish-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bainesjewitt.co.uk\/blog\/business-chiefs-issue-warning-over-sluggish-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Business chiefs issue warning over \u201csluggish\u201d growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Business bodies have voiced concern about the UK\u2019s slump in growth.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It was confirmed earlier this week that GDP grew by just 0.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2016, down from 0.6 per cent in the final three months of last year.<\/p>\n<p>The increase was broadly in line with what economists had projected and it\u2019s thought that the slump in the construction and manufacturing industries has played its part.<\/p>\n<p>David Kern, the chief economist at the British Chambers of Commerce, said there was mounting evidence that the economy was \u201csoftening\u201d and argued that ministers needed to be working on a forceful policy response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cServices remain the main driver of UK economic growth, but firms are becoming more cautious before making long-term investment decisions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Government must remain focused on the task of boosting economic growth. We need more infrastructure investment and support for our exporters to create wealth and drive the economy forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mike Cherry, national chairman at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB),<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>said the situation was \u201cconcerning\u201d for the organisation\u2019s members.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis sluggish performance in the UK is being compounded by uncertainty over the health of the global economy.
