Baines Jewitt boosts its support for North East businesses
Baines Jewitt has bolstered its support for local businesses by adding to its professional payroll team.
We are delighted to have appointed Lori Sowerby from Hartlepool, who has joined our client payroll department. Following similar roles within the private and public sector, Lori has plenty of expertise as well as qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) and the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).
Lori is working alongside payroll manager Amanda Ayre from Middlesbrough. Amanda is also CIPP qualified and spent over 10 years working in the private sector before joining Baines Jewitt in August 2015.
As part of Baines Jewitt’s professional client payroll department, Lori and Amanda provide a range of support to Tees Valley organisations, including sole traders, start-up companies, family firms, charities, small and medium-sized enterprises and large corporate businesses with several hundred employees.
As well as processing wages for dozens of local firms, Lori and Amanda are responsible for sorting out overtime, bonus and pension payments.
“We’re delighted to welcome Lori into our team within one of the largest firms of chartered accountants in the Tees Valley. As well as standard payroll tasks, Lori is helping to provide a whole range of additional support for our clients too. This includes calculating and processing holiday, statutory sickness, maternity and paternity payments; keeping up to date with PAYE and tax codes; making sure statutory paperwork is completed on time; liaising with HMRC and dealing with auto enrolment procedures and pension reporting obligations,” explains Amanda Ayre, payroll manager, Baines Jewitt.
Talking of her appointment Lori said: “I’ve been made to feel really welcome at Baines Jewitt and am pleased to have joined such a hard-working, yet friendly place of work. As well as putting my previous years of experience into practice, there are plenty of opportunities for me to develop new skills too.”
And it seems that great teamwork and juggling multiple tasks doesn’t stop at Lori’s office door. When she isn’t working at Baines Jewitt, Lori - as three times Scottish Baton Twirling Champion - coaches ‘Teesside Twirlers’, a baton twirling troupe that forms part of the England junior team.
