Clampdown on buy to let property owners - 06/09/2007

Significant press coverage over the summer months indicated that HMRC are intending to target landlords who let property. HMRC denied that there was any specific targeting but advised that they are seeking to encourage compliance, particularly in situations where landlords may have:

* made a capital gain on the sale of a let property
* claimed too much tax relief for expenses against their property income
* failed to declare the amount of rent they have received from the let property.
