Team Ferguson - British Motorcycle Championships - 05/07/2007
The Firm recently provided a small sponsorship for ‘Team Ferguson’. This is the team behind Jamie Ferguson, son of our client John Ferguson of Ferguson Roofing. Jamie, pictured at a recent event, has been riding motorcycles since he was a young boy and having made his mark in the 2006 North East Club Formula 125 class, is competing this season in the higher profile, more demanding British 125GP Championships. We give below a flavour of his daring-do antics, via the latest news report, provided by Alison, the official PR Manager for Team Ferguson, who in her spare time, continues her duties as Jamie’s mum:
'As usual the Team travelled to Knockhill for the 7th Round of the BSB on Thursday prior to the free practice sessions held on Friday. Friday dawned dry - thank goodness and Jamie was soon keen to get out and ride the circuit for the very first time and to run his engine in.
During the first session he was delighted to get his lap times from 1 minute 17 seconds (1:17) to 59 seconds. It soon was time for the second practice and again Jamie was pleased being able to reduce his time to 58:79 seconds. However, this was to be short lived! As he was trying to pass a slow rider on the corner prior to the finishing line the bike disagreed with his request and high-sided Jamie in spectacular fashion.
Jamie said everything went in slow motion and at one point he was upside down in the air. His knee and elbow took the brunt of the landing, which totally winded him and left him unable to move. Poor dad was watching from the pit lane and having seen the incident and an immobile son coupled with bales of straw being put round Jamie and the ambulance arriving at top speed he thought Jamie was seriously injured.
Fortunately, when Ian arrived at the medical centre he was able to see Jamie sitting up. The nurse remembered Jamie from Silverstone, which is brilliant, but we don't want to make it a habit! Jamie is now on crutches and has to go to the fracture clinic on Monday morning and possibly will need an arthroscopy. Hopefully he will be back on form for the next round at Mallory Park but it is going to be Friday the 13th again so fingers crossed.
The Team would like to give apologies to several supporters who had either travelled or were on route to Knockhill particularly Tony and Cath who live in Northumberland and were to see Jamie race for the first time.
Jamie would like to thank the BSB medical teams and marshalls who provide outstanding care and Matthew Dawson who has provided Jamie with his 'Forcefield' body armour as it certainly does the job’.
