Accountant Takes The Plunge For Cancer Charity - 01/08/08
 |
Hilary Bevan proved that she has a head for heights as well as figures when she took part in a sponsored abseil to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Hilary was among a group of Macmillan supporters who made the 150ft descent from the landmark Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge, which spans the River Tees, earlier this month. |
She had never abseiled before but decided to sign up for the event as a worthwhile way to aid Macmillan, which provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support for people affected by cancer and works to improve cancer care.
Hilary said: “It took a long time to climb the 209 steps to the top of the bridge and I was nervous all the way. Once I had
reached the top, I was past the point of turning back and felt more relaxed, so I was able to enjoy the spectacular views.
“Stepping off the bridge and into thin air was a bit weird but the actual descent was over in just 30 seconds or so. I’m glad to have been able to help this really good cause and have collected £255 in sponsorship.” |

Hilary is following in the fundraising footsteps of six colleagues at Baines Jewitt, who took part in the Middlesbrough Race for Life on 21 June, in aid of Cancer Research UK. Representatives from the firm have taken part in the Race for Life every year since 2003.
