Accountancy Duo Hit Heights for Cancer Charity - 19/12/2008

Colleagues at Baines Jewitt took the plunge for charity with a breathtaking zip wire ride from the landmark Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge.

Accountant Hilary Bevan and office manager Hilary Morton – who dubbed themselves Team Hilary – were among a group of charity fundraisers who made the 150ft descent, at speeds of up to 30mph, from the bridge, which spans the River Tees. Together they raised around £400 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event, on 4 October, was the second time this year that Hilary Bevan has taken the plunge from the bridge. In July, she raised £255 for the same charity by abseiling from the top of the bridge.

Hilary Morton decided to join her for the zip wire event as a way to face her fear of heights. She admits: “I wouldn’t have got across the bridge without Hilary holding my arm all the way but the zip wire itself was brilliant. It took 20 minutes to get to the top of the bridge and 30 seconds to come down!”

Macmillan Cancer Support provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support for people affected by cancer and works to improve cancer care. Further information is available at www.macmillan.org.uk
