The Government has alerted business owners and directors to a new scam email professing to be from Companies House. If you receive one of these emails, do not open it and report it to the relevant authority.
According to the alert, the email is sent from the contact ‘email@example.com’ with the following message:
This message has been generated in response to the company complaint submitted to Companies House.
(CC01) Company Complaint for the above company was accepted on 04/24/2018.”
The email will then ask you to open an attachment or log in to your account via a link. This will lead to a phishing site designed to steal your username and password, which fraudsters could use to carry out identity fraud.
The Government has asked any recipients of this email to forward them to firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible and to not open any attachments.
It has also reminded business owners and directors that it will never ask for your Companies House authorisation code.
